GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption absolutely rocked the PS3/360 generation of gaming, selling millions (AND MILLIONS!) of copies on their way to becoming some of the highest rated games of all-time.
So it would make sense that Rockstar has plans to remaster these games to capitalize on gamers’ love for these two classics, right?
Not so fast my friend! According to Rockstar Games leaker TezFunz2, while there were plans for remasters of GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, they have since been canceled.
As per a reliable source with clear accuracy on Rockstar plans, remasters of GTA IV & RDR1 were on the table a few years ago, but Rockstar chose not to proceed with the projects in mind.— Tez2 (@TezFunz2) July 4, 2022
The poor reception of the Trilogy DE might be a reason behind that decision.#GTAIV #RDR1
I think what bothers me the most is that they may have been canceled due to the reception of the GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition!? What did they expect?? They released a buggy product with a bevy of artistic changes that were worse than the original releases from generations ago. Sure, they’ve made things right since with several updates but first impressions are hard to forget.
While no one has confirmed it, many have predicted that the Definitive Edition sold somewhere around 10 million copies across all platforms, ultimately exceeding Take-Two’s expectations for the collection, so it was successful on what matters most — making a shitload of money for their investors.
While you ‘never say never’ in the world of gaming, I wouldn’t get my hopes to high for these remasters considering Rockstar Games has pushed all their resources into getting GTA VI out as soon as they can.
What do you think, Brah? Should Rockstar change their plans and remaster these two classics? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
