Getting ahold of a current-gen console has been tough for those searching for a PS5 or an Xbox Series S|X.
EA and DICE are kinda giving back to gamers who buy their game on current-gen console. If you buy the $69.99 PS5 version of Battlefield 2042, you will now receive the digital PS4 version as well thanks to EA’s dual entitlement program. While the game doesn’t support cross-generation cross-play, you’ll be able to play with your last-gen if you like.
However, if you buy the $59.99 PS4 version, you will not get the free upgrade to the PS5 edition. The game does support cross-progression so if you did upgrade in the future you won’t have to worry about your progression.
The official statement:
We realize that next gen hardware is still hard to come by for many. But we want as many Battlefield fans as possible to start the journey with us on day 1 and give those players the peace of mind that their progress carries over if they get a new system this holiday season, or beyond. […] Today, we’re excited to share that we have added a new benefit to our standard digital edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. They now feature dual entitlement so players can future-proof their experience with a standard edition purchase. Now, if you buy the standard digital version of Battlefield 2042 for PlayStation 5 or Xbox X/S, you will get access to the game for both generations for that platform and all of your progress will carry over when you upgrade your hardware.
The Battlefield 2042 open beta is live for those who pre-ordered or are EA Play subscribers. The rest of us will have to wait until the 8th to get a taste of Battlefield 2042.
Battlefield 2042 hits the PS4 and PS5 on November 19th.
