YouTube Maximilian Dood’s ‘#FREEMVC2’ campaign went big time viral as it spread like wildfire on social media.

The goal? To get the attention of Disney and Capcom to bring back the greatness of Marvel vs Capcom 2 to modern consoles. After being delisted years ago, a copy will cost you a finger or toe (whichever you prefer) on consoles.

Developer Digital Eclipse, who worked on the re-release for the PS3 and Xbox 360 added fuel to said fire by saying they would talk to the two entertainment goliaths regarding another release of the classic fighting game.

Good news! There appears to have been some progress! Speaking with ShackNews, Mike Mika, Head of Digital Eclipse, said what he could relating to the matter.

I know that Disney and Capcom have seen that [Max’s campaign] loud and clear and we’ve begun some discussions on that right now and we’re trying to see how far we can go but at the end of the day it really isn’t up to us.

Mike continues to speak on the matter, saying that while both companies would like this to happen, the licensing details might be a big battle going forward. Sure, Disney owns a major of the Marvel Characters but when it comes down to Capcom, their character, music rights, etc. could be a bottleneck going into the future.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 is one of the most popular and beloved licensed Marvel titles ever released. With the way Marvel Games is doing their best to produce quality games, you know they would love to add this feather to their mighty gaming Infinity gauntlet.

Here’s the full interview with Mike Mika, which is diffently worth a watch if you’re a fan of the series and cheering for a current-gen remaster to take you for a ride.
