Even as big of a success that the Dragon Quest series is in Japan, it has still to match that kind of success in the west.

The Dragon Quest team is most definitely trying to appeal to older gamers and to the west, as DQXII is being called “Dragon Quest for Adults” by the series creator Yuji.

Now in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, Square Enix President and CEO Yosuke Matsuda talked about how DQXII is going to help shape the franchise for the next decade or two.

Dragon Quest XII is being developed taking into account the next 10 to 20 years of the Dragon Quest series.

There are parts that remain consistent with the traditional image of Dragon Quest, but new elements are also necessary. After all, as a brand we always need to innovate.
