Even though this Brah missed out on Sonic Mania during its heyday on the Sega Genesis, I’ve since done my best to right my wrong when I supported the living hell out of the Dreamcast.

Two of my favorite games on the DC were none other than the Sonic Adventure titles. These two games took the Sonic formula into the world of 3D and never looked back.

Just how Sonic Adventure set the tone for the franchise the past 20 years, Sonic Team leader and Producer Takashi Iizuka hopes that Sonic 2022, which is rumored to he Sonic Rangers, will do the same for the series going forward.

In an exclusive interview with Sonic Stadium, Takashi talked about the goal for the game.

Sonic Adventure laid the foundation for 20 years of Sonic titles after its release, so in the same way I really hope that this new title releasing in 2022 lays the foundation for the following future Sonic titles – that is the idea behind the challenge for the team.

He went on to tease us more about Sonic 2022, but couldn’t say much. You can read even more of the interview with Iizuka-san in the full interview with Sonic Stadium on June 23rd.

Since this title is still mid-development there is nothing I can speak to, but I did want to say that the development team has been spending their time to do something new and challenging. Through a lot of trial and error the team is looking to present to everyone a new Sonic game, and I hope your warm support of their work can motivate them to really deliver against that challenge.

Here’s the teaser trailer for Sonic 2022 if you missed the initial reveal!
