EA did exactly what I predicted they would do with Battlefield 2042. Showed us a 5 minute trailer of ‘game engine’ footage, then tells us to check in at a later date, June 13th, to see the gameplay reveal most likely at Xbox’s presser.

Don’t worry! The trailer looked insane. Due to the climate change in the near future (in the game), weather will impact the matches. Some details that have been revealed:

– PS4 version is $59.99, PS5 $69.99.

– 64 player matches on the PS4, 128 on the PS5.

– Hazard is the newest mode to the Battlefield series.

– Maps will be smaller on last-gen.

– Enhanced terrain deformation.

– 7 yuuuuuuge maps to battle on.

– Season passes: free and paid for.

Eurogamer asked Daniel Berlin about the lack of a single-player campaign and he had this to say.

I think that’s just something that enables us to really lean into what we are best at. If you look at the DNA of the studio, what we’ve been doing for so long, we just said you know what, we’re not going to have a traditional single-player campaign this time around, but we’re going to put all that emphasis and all those resources into building depth into the multiplayer. Because that is what we do best.”
