Sony certainly didn’t do themselves any favors when they abruptly announced that the PSP, PS3, and PS Vita digital stores would be closing this Summer.
What made matters worse is that Sony didn’t even notify to tell devs the Vita store was closing before telling the public! So naturally, the PlayStation Nation took to social media to voice our opinions on the matter.
It didn’t take long for Sony to reverse their decision. Kinda. While Jim Ryan confirmed that the PSP would still be closing, the PS3 and PS Vita stores would live on.
Sure, the stores will live on — but there’s a catch! Publisher Sometimes You has confirmed that the original deadline for releasing games on the Vita is still in place. No more games will be released on the Vita store after July 20th. While you will still be able to purchase games off the PS Vita store, no new games will release after this summer.
Sad news – it seems that the old deadlines for new digital releases on PSVita are still valid. That is, the store will continue to work for customers, but the games will stop coming out this summer😞 #VitaIsland #Vita2021— Sometimes You 🎮📺🕹️ (@Pinkerator) May 6, 2021
The Vita has lived a long, hard life thus far. I truly believe if not for Sony, it would’ve received games throughout 2022. Even though the chances of Sony working on another handheld are slim to none, the PS Vita will always live on..in our gaming hearts.
