Sony and PlayStation Pictures venture into expanding their ip’s, has added a new wrinkle to their plans. Recently, we’ve received details pertaining to Sony’s Uncharted film set for release this year. As well as, The Last of Us HBO series which just recently casted its two leads, Joel & Ellie. However, PlayStation doesn’t seem content to stop there just yet.
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are developing a movie adaptation of the critical and commercial hit, Ghost of Tsushima. Naturally, not too much is known about the, clearly early in production project. However, we do know the film will have John Wick director, Chad Stahelski set to direct. No news on writers and what not, but we can assume that’ll be reveal once the project begins to make traction.
Deadline also notes a few other notable details pertaining to the upcoming film. Saying, Stahelski, Alex Young and Jason Spitz will produce through their company, 87Eleven Entertainment. Once again, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will produce the film as well. Also worth note, Sucker Punch Productions will serve as Executive Producers, with Peter King overseeing the project.
All in all, PlayStation’s continued effort to grow their ip’s into other mediums, cannot go understated. As previously mentioned, we know Uncharted, The Last of Us, Twisted Metal and now Ghost of Tsushima, all fall into this category. Naturally, this makes you wonder what other ip’s will they explore next? Nonetheless, seeing what Shawn Layden discuss way back in 2018, come to fruition, feels incredibly cool to watch come together from afar. We’ll cross our fingers this new venture works out as well as the games side clearly has.
