If you remember, after the release of Demon’s Souls on PS5, a lot of smoke began to percolate. Smoke, pertaining to Sony’s imminent acquisition of developer Bluepoint Games. The team behind the Shadow of the Colossus Remake and Demon’s Souls Remake.
Last year, ResetEra forum member, MarispanRumpan, posted that a deal between the two companies had been finalized. Also, stating the announcement would be made between December and February. A number of other details were included, such as, Demon’s Souls, acting as a final test for Bluepoint, to convince Sony of the team’s quality. But, unfortunately, we find ourselves close to the end of February, with no announcement in sight.
Naturally, this has caused a bit of an uproar on the forum, calling for the ban of the member. But, moderator Transistor, has come to their defense. Supporting the user’s prior claim of an impending acquisition.
Sony’s Acquisition of Bluepoint Games is on the Horizon
Transistor had this to say,
First off, I want to say how disappointed in this community I am. The amount of hostility in this thread is unwarranted. This community needs to be better about how it treats one another.
As for MarsipanRumpan, he’s not going to get banned, so chill the fuck out. There’s been smoke from multiple sources about Bluepoint being acquired by Sony, so it’s pretty much going to happen, it’s just a matter of when. I had faith enough that it was going to happen so I would never have to ban them in the first place. I don’t like actual ban bets and don’t tend to entertain them.
It’s no small secret, how close of a relationship Bluepoint and Sony have forged in the recent years. From the Nathan Drake Collection, to Gravity Rush Remastered. Now, most recently, Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls, the two have worked closely together for a number of years. The simple fact of them continuing to build this relationship, would seem evidence enough of a potential acquisition.
Plenty of smoke around this particular matter, would lend further credence to the possibility. Honestly, it’s bound to happen but as Transistor said, it’s a matter of time. MarsipanRumpan’s biggest mistake in all of this, was putting a firm timetable on the acquisition. If they hadn’t have done so, maybe this ire could’ve been avoided.
