If you thought yesterday’s Indiana Jones announcement was big, it looks like the exclusivity deal between EA and Star Wars games is over, because breaking news, LucasFilms Games & Ubisoft are joining forces to create a ‘massive’ new Star Wars game!

News broke this morning that Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment studio will handling the mighty responsibility of delivering a project worthy of the Star Wars name. The project is still early as Massive is currently hiring for it. This new project will also be part of the Star Wars canon.

Yves Guillemot, the big daddy CEO over at Ubisoft, couldn’t contain his excitement over this new partnership between Lucasfilm Games and Ubi.

The Star Wars galaxy is an amazing source of motivation for our teams to innovate and push the boundaries of our medium. Building new worlds, characters and stories that will become lasting parts of the Star Wars lore is an incredible opportunity for us, and we are excited to have our Ubisoft Massive studio working closely with Lucasfilm Games to create an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before.

When asked about the EA deal, WIRED was told the following by Sean Shoptaw, senior vice president of Global Games and Interactive Experiences at Disney, that there is room from both:

EA has been and will continue to be a very strategic and important partner for us now and going forward. But we did feel like there’s room for others

So get ready for a giant, open-world Star Wars title that will ultimately be developed by 15+ teams with some kind of online mode connectivity and plenty DLC content, free and paid. I don’t see this game dropping to $30 two months after release though, that’s for sure.
