While the world of PlayStation is currently overloading on the PlayStation 5, the second-best selling console of all-time, the PlayStation 4, received a firmware update bringing with it a new gaming chat option.

Here it is, coming in at 477MB, this new option gives you the ability to disable gaming chat audio.

Update 8.03:

[Disable Game Chat Audio] has been added under [Sound/Devices] in quick menu. If you turn on this setting, game chat audio will be disabled. Your voice won’t be heard, and you won’t hear other player’s voices. This setting doesn’t apply to party chat audio.

Remember, this update is optional for now, so if you can’t be bothered to update then don’t. But remember it’ll be lurking there, just waiting for the next major PS4 firmware to release.
