Sony surprised many yesterday when they announced that they would be canceling their PAX East presence which included the first hands-on demo of The Last of Us Part II due to health concerns over the coronavirus COVID19 epidemic.

Now Sony has confirmed to Gamesindustry.biz that they will also be canceling their appearance at GDC 2020. This is a brief statement sent to GIB from SIE:

We have made the difficult decision to cancel our participation in Game Developers Conference due to increasing concerns related to COVID-19 (also known as coronavirus). We felt this was the best option as the situation related to the virus and global travel restrictions are changing daily. We are disappointed to cancel our participation, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern. We look forward to participating in GDC in the future.

Facebook/Oculus gaming have also canceled their scheduled appearances at GDC 2020. With the threat of coronavirus still spreading globally what other gaming events could this hit in the future?
