When the PlayStation Portable hit the scene in 2004 it changed the way handheld gaming was viewed. It offered gamers the chance to game on a portable system with console quality graphics along with a variety of multimedia options. It was a huge hit for Sony as it eventually spawned the PlayStation Vita.

The PlayStation Vita was and is still is a damn good handheld gaming device, giving those who own it plenty of games to play across PS1, PSP, and PS Vita. Bad timing, an ever-changing market, and expensive af memory cards derailed it from reaching the mountain top that the PSP conquered.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan spoke to Game Informer in their newest issue regarding the possibility of another PlayStation handheld.. Brah. I wouldn’t count on it anytime soon.

PlayStation Vita was brilliant in many ways, and the actual gaming experience was great, but clearly it’s a business that we’re no longer in now.

While I would love another PlayStation handheld I think the current stable of PS4/PSVR/PS5/PSVR2 is more than enough for Sony to handle. Never say never!
