Here’s some news that no one was expecting today: After 30+ years at Sony across a variety of positions, SIE WWS Chairman Shawn Layden is departing the company.
Sony broke the news tonight on Twitter in a short send-off of one of their most popular leaders of the PlayStation division:
It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE. His visionary leadership will be greatly missed. We wish him success in future endeavors and are deeply grateful for his years of service. Thanks for everything, Shawn!— PlayStation (@PlayStation) September 30, 2019
We had the honor of meeting Mr. Layden at PSX 2016 and the opportunity to talk gaming with him. We would like to thank him for all of his years of service!
The question now is who exactly is replacing Shawn as Chairman? Is there more to this story than meets the eye? If any further news develop we will share it with you.
