Ever since Days Gone ended Sony’s E3 2016 press conference, one of the major attractions of the game has been the massive Freaker Horde. A pack of potentially hundreds of Freakers ready to turn you into their dinner.
Speaking with IGN specifically about the Horde, John Garvin, Creative Director at Bend Studio confirmed the game will have 40 different Hordes to contend with, along with 3 you’ll encounter during story missions. They range from 50 Freakers all the way to 500 of the beast ready to tear you to pieces.
I think that’s the thing that makes Days Gone unique. It’s the fact that [a horde]’s not just sitting at the old sawmill; they will go into those buildings and hibernate during the day, but then they’ll come out at night and go down to the watering hole and they’ll migrate around. All 40 hordes in the open world do that.
We most definitely agree with John here. When we went hands-on with Days Gone at E3 2018 the Horde battle demo really helped give the game a different and unique feel. Once the game releases on April 26th, you’ll see what I mean. The Horde(s) really are something you need to fear and get tactical about IF you plan on talking any of them down.
