Well, here’s a surprise we did not seeing coming. Remember Jim Ryan? He’s been at Sony forever and day. He’s said some crazy things over the years. He even has a GREATEST HITS LINEUP OF THEM!
Here’s an infamous quote of his:
I was at a ‘Gran Turismo’ event recently where they had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games, and the PS1 and the PS2 games, they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this?
What a classic! Where were you when he said this tasty line dissing indie games?!?
It (indie games) was just good to talk about in 2013/2014. It is less relevant now. We have VR to talk about now, for example.
How can you forget the time he said Sony wanted to protect the kids from the evils of Minecraft??!
We’ve got to be mindful of our responsibility to our install base. Minecraft – the demographic playing that, you know as well as I do, it’s all ages but it’s also very young. We have a contract with the people who go online with us, that we look after them and they are within the PlayStation curated universe. Exposing what in many cases are children to external influences we have no ability to manage or look after, it’s something we have to think about very carefully.
Yeah. For some reason Sony saw fit for John Kodera, the current CEO and President of SIE to change roles and allow JIM RYAN to become SIE Prez and CEO effect April 1st, 2019.
Why are you laughing?? I’M BEING SERIOUS!
The official statement from the PR release:
Sony Corporation and Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced that SIE Deputy President Jim Ryan will be appointed President and CEO of SIE effective April 1, 2019. Current SIE President and CEO John (Tsuyoshi) Kodera will dedicate his focus on creating innovative user experiences and further enhancing the network area as Deputy President of SIE. At the same time, Jim Ryan will also assume the role of Representative Director and President of SIE’s Japan-based legal entity, Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc., and John Kodera will be its Representative Director and Deputy President. Jim Ryan will report directly to Kenichiro Yoshida, President and CEO of Sony Corporation.
There it is. One of those cocky, arrogant Sony executives is now in charge of Sony Interactive Entertainment. God help all of PlayStation Gamers.
