During Sony’s CES 2019 conference the Japanese tech giant made it official: the PlayStation 4 family of consoles had surpassed 90 million consoles, with an estimated 91.6 million sold to consumers, with 5.6 million of them being sold from November 19th to December 31th, 2018.

The march to 100 million PS4s sold is looking for much like a reality in 2019, unless some type of catastrophe happens to Sony’s market dominating piece of plastic and computer chips.

Other interesting stats Sony revealed:

  • PlayStation Network members have surpassed 90 million.
  • 50.7 million PS4 games were sold during the Holiday season (digital + physical).
  • A total of over 876 million games have been sold since release in 2013.

John Kodera, President and CEO of SIE, commented on the BRAHtastic success of the PlayStation and the future of their juggernaut gaming brand.

Thanks to the continued support from our fans during the holiday season, we are pleased to announce that PS4 has reached 91.6 million units globally. We are also happy to announce that the monthly active users of PlayStation Network continues to show strong growth, and has surpassed 90 million as of end of November 2018. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our passionate community around the globe, and our partners, for helping us achieve these milestones. This year, we will bring more enhanced experiences to our fans along with a highly anticipated lineup of games that are only possible on PS4. As we look toward the next PS4 milestone, SIE will continue to evolve, and we will further expand the platform to deliver the best interactive entertainment experiences to the world.
