Have you ever thought what it would be like to train for the Police Academy? The amount of time you would have to put in, the psychology, and even the self control that goes with it? It’s one of those things that for me, I don’t know if I could do it. But as soon as Mayor Beal decided there was going to be a change in the hiring process, it seems that everyone was lined up for a chance to become the next recruit. But does Developer The Binary Mill show us what it would be like and give us the practice we need on the gun range? Let’s find out with Gun Club VR for the PlayStation VR.
Gun Club VR first and foremost is all about shooting targets at the gun range. From a warehouse to outside and from bad guys with hostages to zombies, you are sure to find enough to fill in that itchy gun triggering finger you may have. Of course, a gun range would not be a gun range without various weapons and upgrades to select from.
So make sure that both Move controllers are well charged as you will need them to fire, pick your weapon from your holster and of course reloading the clips. Which I will say this, in the beginning, make sure you calibrate to have the best possible experience . In the beginning, it seemed I was having a little trouble trying to reload the clip as I was thinking too much about it. I was looking down and trying to reach for the clip. The Developer has made it so easy to just reach down without looking to grab the clip on your side (I never ran out of the clips) and load it into your gun. But once you get the hang of things, you might be surprised how well the aiming is with the Move controllers are and how often you may get those headshots.
Early on you will only have access to a certain part of the map. Once access is gained, you will have different events within those sections. What I like is the number of levels that an even can have. For example, the pistol may have up to 40 levels of its own and an Action even can have you moving around the area by teleporting. Before you begin on a level, it will show you how much money you can earn which you can then use to upgrade and buy new weapons in the shop. But pay attention to some of the requirements to get into the level as you may need to equip a flashlight for the darker levels. And when you add a laser sight along with the upgraded destruction and the amount of ammo you can hold, it really comes along quite nicely. Also, you may want to be on the lookout from some fruit that may be hidden as this will add to your score.
Another thing you may notice is how the targets may not appear very
At this time I would like to take a moment of silence for all the hostages I have virtually killed. That was not me. That was your kidnapper who held you against your will and used you as a shield so that they can hide behind their own misery in life. I also blame the accuracy that is found in Gun Club VR. If it wasn’t for the very well done accuracy that the developer added, I am pretty sure that more than half of the hostages would have survived. Now that the moment of silence is over…let’s continue.
Now I did mention weapons and yes there is quite a variety here. I tried the shotguns, smg’s, the assault rifles and more. But for me, I stuck with the pistol. Each different weapon has it’s own feel to it, which is very nice and fires accordingly how they should based on the weapon. But when you have a horde of zombies coming at you and going with the shotgun that has to be reloaded more often, I went with what I already upgraded. Yes, I should have have gone into a horde with a beginning shotgun and yes, I should have gotten more practice with so said assault rifle and sniper rifle…don’t judge me.
But oh how good the sniper is and you can look down the scope and the images are magnified does have this satisfaction to it. But again, this is where you have options. You can decide what gun is best for you and how you want to upgrade it. It really is nice to have options on the upgrades and finding all the unlockables really adds to the experience. One thing I did forget to mention is that you can add profiles which you can pick your name. So as you progress up the rank it will display it with the name you picked. So this is really good if you have other members in your household that also play and a good way to see the amount of time they have played and money that was earned.
Let’s talk about graphics. Everything from each of the weapons to the targets
The Sound was clear and loud. Each weapon has it’s own sound from the loading of weapons, to hearing the clips hit the ground to the loading of the clips and ammo. It was fun to hear the moaning of the zombies coming from the different directions. When playing a night level and hearing the sounds of the zombies coming from behind you because you don’t see anything front of you and you actually have to turn around only to not see anything and turn back around to see them coming in your direction, I was actually surprised that the amount of detail that was put into the sound. You can hear the realism and that adds to this immersive experience.
If there is anything I would love to see here that Gun Club VR screams for is leaderboards. Being able to see who is the best in the world would be awesome. I would love to see the ability to add Aim controller support. Yes, some of the two-handed weapons may not be as functional, but Aim controller + Gun Club VR would be pretty fun. Also, I would love to see some future ranges added such as blasting aliens as they try and invade Earth or even through different eras of time such as the Wild West.
Gun Club VR gives us the feel of being at a gun range while giving a lot of variety of different weapons that we may not normally get to use with the details to match. When things in life may become stressful, it’s nice to have an outlet where we don’t have to take our aggression on those of the innocent but allow us to turn it into a positive by focusing on the targets that represent the obstacles in our lives.
