It feels like we get some kind of negative PS Vita news on a weekly basis. No more physical games in 2019. New games getting announced for the Switch yet skipping the PS Vita altogether. Now we have the news that even though PS Vita still moves around 2,000 or so in Japan a week in Japan, Sony has plans to cease production of their little handheld that could in 2019.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Senior Vice President Hiroyuki Oda confirmed the demise of the Vita to Famitsu while at Tokyo Game Show 2018. Hiroyuki also let it be known that they have no plans for another Vita.
Currently, we do not have any plans regarding a new handheld device. In Japan, we will manufacture PlayStation Vita until 2019. From there, shipping will end.
RIP VITA!!! Look, I predicted the other day there would be Vita games still releasing in 2020 and I’m going to stand by that prediction, damnit!! Sony has no one to blame but themselves for the failure of the Vita. Great handheld that was shot in the foot by its own Parents! Oh well.
