I’ve always heard that the UK is the true PlayStation Nation, but never believed it until now!
According to Gamesindustry.biz via the UKIE and GfK, PS4 accounted for 50.2% of all physical games sold in the United Kingdom for 2017. The second closest competitor? The Xbox One at 31.6%. Domination, Brah!
The UKIE reported that this was the first time (on record) that a single console had claimed half of the market share. The last time a console dominated the market? The PS1. In 1998. With 47.9%. Sony has to be ecstatic about these results.
But wait there’s more! Sony exclusive titles claimed the weekly top spot a total of 15 times. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy held the spot 7 times, Horizon, Persona 5, FFXII: The Zodiac Age, Gran Turismo Sport,WipeOut Omega Collection, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy all also held the top spot, combining to dominate the market in 2017. This didn’t break the record of 16, set by Nintendo in 2009. Still, an impressive feat by any measure of success!
Congrats to Sony for such an impressive 2017! The craziest part? As big as 2017 has been, 2018 could be just as big, if not bigger, with such titles as Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, Dreams, Days Gone, and the obscene amount of major titles coming to the PlayStation 4 and PS VR. The future truly is bright for PlayStation.
