Even though there hasn’t been a new Dark Cloud in 14 years, there series certainly has quite the dedicated fanbase. You look at polls for most requested sequels to a Sony first-party titles and you’ll always see Dark Cloud on the list somewhere near the top. If you’ve been waiting or requesting a new Dark Cloud, it’s going to take BOTH Sony AND Level-5 to come to an agreement on it.

Polygon had the chance to interview the CEO of Level-5, Akihiro Hino and asked about the possibility of a new Dark Cloud. The answer? Don’t hold ya’ breath.

There has been a lot of requests and voices to create a Dark Cloud 3 or some form of Dark Cloud. That IP is co-owned or managed by Sony Computer Entertainment, so it’s not something that we can do or act upon on our own.

Never say never, buuuuut it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon. I could be completely wrong and I really hope that I am. If you need your Dark Cloud fix, you can always play both games as part of the PS2 classics on PS4 emulation initiative.

Or, you can play the waiting game. As long as you don’t mind playing for a looooong time, Bruh.
