NOW IT ALL MAKES SENSE!!! Marvel is famous for retconning major events to better fit a new storyline or drastically altering a character’s history for no good reason. They’re at it again!! They have totally retconned our memories so that we no longer remember the X-Men. Damn, yo.

In an interview with with Gamespot, Capcom’s Director of Production Michael Evans talked about why their newest entry in the popular series lacks any of the Child of the Atom.

We talked with Marvel very closely about their future roadmap, about what’s gonna be happening. Your modern Marvel fan, maybe they don’t even remember some of the X-Men characters, but they know some of the Guardians characters or Black Panther. You know what I mean? Captain Marvel may seem like a strange pick, but she’s fantastic. She fits the gameplay. She fits the story, and they’re gonna be really pushing her as a strong female lead all the way up into the movie. We’re trying to take everything into account and choose the best characters

Uh, wait. What? How could people forget?? Logan released THIS year, Deadpool was a smash hit, then the X-Men reboot films have made a TON of money. Lets be honest about this. Marvel wanted to focus on their MCU characters, first. Then if the rumors ARE really true, we’re going to have to pay for the X-characters through all the DLC that is planned for the game.

Seriously though. Comic book fans KNOW of the X-Men. You don’t have to make lame excuses. Anyone with access to the Internet knows what is going on.

Look for the X-Men-less Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite when it releases on September 19.
